ABOUT CALSMA

OUR MISSION

At CALSMA Taekwondo, our mission is to prioritize the holistic development of our students both physically and mentally, emphasizing character building within a safe and positive learning environment. Through our guidance, we aspire to cultivate individuals not only to excel in martial arts in the dojang but also emerge as exemplary citizens, positively contributing to their communities.

OUR VISION

Empowering students to unlock their utmost potential in character development through our life coaching classes, sportsmanship through competitions, and leadership skills through our mentorship program, by using the principles of the Tenets of Taekwondo as their guiding tool.

HISTORY OF CALSMA

California School of Martial Arts LLC (CALSMA Taekwondo) was founded after More Than Medals Taekwondo (MTM) in Daly City temporarily suspended its Taekwondo program. Master Osmundo “Jun” Quitain, a 5th Dan Kukkiwon-certified Black Belt with a distinguished competitive record, now leads and co-owns the school alongside his wife, Charmaine Quitain. Master Jun has been a pivotal figure at MTM since 2005 and has earned numerous accolades, including becoming a Gold Medalist at the 2024 USA Taekwondo National Championship in Sparring, a spot on the 2024 USA Taekwondo National Team, and the title of 2023 California State Champion. He has also mentored and trained both national and international athletes.

Charmaine Quitain brings her academic and leadership expertise to the school’s operations. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management and Administration from Woodbury University in Burbank, California. Charmaine was also one of the key convocation speaker for the class of 2010. Charmaine has since been a volunteer at More Than Medals Taekwondo from 2008 – 2022. Together, Master Jun and Charmaine merge their martial arts and business knowledge to guide the school in its mission.

CALSMA is also home to state and national champions, with its students winning titles at the 2023, 2024 and 2025 California State Championships and medaling at the 2024 and 2025 USA Taekwondo National Championships and earning several championship titles at the 2025 USA Season Finals. The school’s Demonstration Team has also achieved significant success, being crowned AAU State Champion and winning the USA Dream Open Championship three times.

Beyond physical training, CALSMA focuses on the holistic development of its students through its integrated Life Coaching Program. This program is included in every membership and aims to instill respect, discipline, self-confidence, and service. Through Life Coaching, students learn to apply the principles of Taekwondo to personal and character development, enhancing their mental well-being and fostering positive habits both inside and outside the dojang.

CALSMA’s ultimate goal is for students to exemplify the tenets of Taekwondo in all areas of life, becoming not only “Champions in the Game” but also “Champions in Life.”

LIFE COACHING AT CALSMA

Life Coaching classes at CALSMA stand as integral supplements to physical training. They constitute a vital component of our curriculum, harnessing the principles and ethos of taekwondo to propel our students toward personal and character development milestones. These sessions not only enhance mental well-being but also cultivate positive habits and attitudes, crucially extending beyond the confines of the dojang.

Our purpose is to develop students who can practice the tenets of taekwondo at home, school and everyday life.

At CALSMA, we aim to guide students on becoming not only “Champions in the Game, but also Champions in Life
